After not knitting for a very long time (30+ years) I thought one of my first projects would be a blanket for my daughter. A nice idea but it taught me the importance of planning, or at least starting with a pattern. I began with a rough idea of what I wanted to achieve and then changed my plans several times, because that is what I do 😉
I used Lion Brand Hometown yarn for the blanket because it was a very soft, ‘super bulky’ yarn and I wanted something that would work up quickly. The colour is ‘Chicago Charcoal’ which is a darker grey, though it seems to show a bit more blue in my first image. It is a nice yarn to knit with. I was a bit worried as my first skein had several knots but the other skeins were fine. I would use it again but maybe for a smaller blanket because I made a larger throw and it was quite heavy.
My plan was to create a sampler blanket using many different knitting stitches, both as practice and because I thought my daughter would like it. I overestimated my skill level after not knitting for so long so settled on only a few stitches, Seed Stitch border all around, King Charles Brocade next, a few rows break, the middle section in Hurdle Stitch, followed by a repeat at the other end. All are knit/purl stitches and the Hurdle Stitch and Seed Stitch are reversible (same on both sides), and the rest are not but still create a nice pattern.
It took me a little longer than expected but I did complete it and mailed it to her. She liked it!
